1. Material List Bag Body: Black cotton macrame yarn, polyester bag yarn, or waxed cord (a sturdy, rigid yarn is recommended to keep the bag standing upright). Dress, Umbrella, & Leaves: Bright red cotton bag yarn or amigurumi cotton yarn. Skin Tones: Beige/skin-colored yarn (for the neck and arm). Hair: Brown yarn. Crochet Hook: Suitable size for your yarn (typically 2.5 mm or 3.0 mm; a smaller hook yields a tighter texture). Accessories: A wooden or metal tag reading "Handmade with love" and a small gold jump ring. Other: Plastic canvas/mesh for internal structural support (optional), tapestry needle, and scissors. 2. Bag Body and Base The bag is constructed as a rigid, rectangular box bag. Base: Start with a chain matching your desired bag width (e.g., approximately 30 cm). Work single crochets (sc) around both sides of the foundation chain. Work 3 sc into each corner stitch (increasing) to form crisp, flat corners. Continue working in rounds until the base reaches the desired depth (e.g., 10 cm).
Body: Once the base is complete, do not increase. Work single crochets around the base using BLO (Back Loop Only) for the first round. This creates a sharp edge separating the base from the sides. Continue working straight single crochet rounds (or a tight thermal/waistcoat stitch) until the body reaches a height of 30–35 cm. Tip: Insert a plastic mesh sheet inside the bag walls to maintain a rigid structure. 3. Handles Construction and Attachment Handles (Make 2): Using black yarn, ch 6–7 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring. Work spirally in continuous single crochet to form a tubular cord to your desired length (approx. 45–50 cm). Insert a flexible plastic tube inside for extra reinforcement if desired. Attachment: Flatten the ends of the handles and sew them securely to the upper front and back panels. Oval crochet patches can be placed over the ends for a neat finish.
4. 3D Lady Figure (Appliqué Details) Each component of the figure is crocheted separately and stitched onto the bag. A. Head, Hair, and Hat Head & Hair: Work an oval/head silhouette using beige yarn. Embroider or crochet a brown bun on top for the hairstyle. Hat: With red yarn, start with 6 sc in a magic ring. Increase in each round to create the hat crown. Switch to double crochets (dc) with frequent increases to create the wide, flared brim. Accent with a thin black strip around the crown and a small red crochet flower. B. Neck, Arm, and Bodice Neck & Arm: With beige yarn, ch 4–5 and work sc to shape the neck. Extend into a slender arm angled to hold the umbrella handle. Bodice (Top Dress): With red yarn, work a small triangular/corset piece using sc increases and decreases to fit the back and waist profile.
C. Tiered Petal Skirt The skirt is composed of layered crochet petals, giving it a 3D effect. Petal Motif: Foundation: Ch 8–10. Petal Shape: Work sc, hdc, and dc along the chain, increasing at the tip, and working back down the opposite side to form a leaf/petal shape with a curved profile. Skirt Assembly: Top Rows: Attach smaller petals near the waistline. Bottom Rows: Increase both the size and quantity of petals per layer toward the hem to create a full, voluminous ballgown shape. 5. Umbrella Canopy: Using red yarn, start in a magic ring and work flat in radial sectors (increasing evenly) to form a semi-circular canopy. Spokes & Handle: Embroider black lines radiating from the center to define the umbrella ribs. Use a thin black cord or wrapped wire for the stem/handle, extending from the lady's hand up to the top center of the hat.
6. Falling Leaves and Final Assembly Falling Leaves: Crochet small leaf motifs in red (ch 4–5, work sc and dc along the chain) in various sizes. Assembly Sequence: Complete the black bag structure. Sew the head, hat, and upper body onto the center of the front panel. Layer and stitch the dress petals from top to bottom. Secure the umbrella handle and canopy into position. Scatter and stitch the red falling leaves around the figure. Attach the "Handmade with love" wooden tag to the side using a gold jump ring.
