Materials List Yarn: Cream or ecru colored cotton amigurumi yarn (or macramé/twisted fine cotton yarn). For the Body and Antennae: Shiny gold (or bronze) metallic yarn, waxed cord, or thin satin twine. Beads: 3 medium-sized pearl beads for the body. 2 small gold metallic beads or stopper beads for the tips of the antennae. Crochet Hook: A hook suitable for your yarn thickness (typically between 2.0 mm - 2.5 mm). Other: Scissors and a small amount of hot glue or fabric glue for securing (you can also sew them together). Making the Butterfly Wings (Detailed Instructions) The butterfly in the image consists of two pairs of wings in different sizes (upper large wings and lower small wings) crocheted using a special technique, or a single piece folded and shaped. The most common and elegant method for this model is crocheting the wings by forming loops (spaces) with chain and treble crochet techniques.
Step 1: Foundation and Magic Ring / Chain Base Chain 6 or 8 and join with a slip stitch in the first chain to form a small ring (or make a magic ring). Step 2: Upper (Large) Wings Start by transitioning into the ring or the first wing space: For the upper wings: Chain approximately 10-12 chains. Yarn over and work double crochets (DC) or treble crochets along the chain to create the wing curve (typically filling each wing down toward the base with about 8-10 treble crochets). Go around the outer edge with single crochets (SC) to give it a neat, curved appearance. Step 3: Lower (Small) Wings Continuing from the same center ring, shorter chains are worked for the lower wings: For the lower wings: Chain approximately 7-9 chains. Work treble crochets to fill the lower wing (typically 6-8 treble crochets). Finish the edge contour with single crochets, secure the yarn at the center, and cut. (Note: In these delicate beaded butterflies, the wings are usually crocheted symmetrically, joined in the center, or designed as a single piece that can be folded over.)
Preparing the Body and Antennae Antennae: Cut two equal lengths of gold cord/metallic yarn. Thread small gold beads onto the ends, knot them, or secure them with glue. Body: Prepare a thin strip by crocheting your gold yarn (or single crochet over a chain) or use a pre-made twisted cord. Assembly Stage (Mounting) Placement of the Wings: Place the cream-colored wings you crocheted on a flat surface facing the back. Pin or secure them together at the center so that the upper wings are slightly larger and pointing upward, while the lower wings sit right below them and are a bit smaller. Body and Beads: Place the prepared gold body cord vertically right in the center. Glue or sew 3 pearl beads in order over the body, centering them. These pearls form the butterfly's body and cover any imperfections at the center joint of the wings for an elegant look. Adding the Antennae: Position the prepared antennae right behind the top pearl, angled upwards, and glue them securely in place. Your butterfly is now ready to be used on hair clips, headbands, amigurumi decorations, or clothing accessories!
