???? Materials Needed Yarn: Slim cotton macrame yarn, mercerized cotton (such as YarnArt Jeans, Alize Cotton Gold, etc.), or cotton crochet thread depending on your preference. Colors: White/Off-white, Black, Mint Green/Sea Green. Crochet Hook: 2.0 mm or 2.5 mm (matching your yarn weight). Other: Fiberfill stuffing (to lightly stuff the panda's head and body), black embroidery floss (for eyelids and mouth), stitch marker, scissors, and a tapestry needle. ???? Abbreviations ch: Chain sc: Single crochet inc: Increase (2 single crochet in the same stitch) dec: Decrease (Invisible decrease or 2 single crochet together) dc: Double crochet tr: Treble crochet sl st: Slip stitch ???? PART 1: The Base (White Mesh & Green Border) The base starts from the center as a white mesh grid, and then the green wavy shell motifs are crocheted around the edge. ⚪ White Mesh Section Round 1: Make 12 dc into a magic ring, join with a sl st. (12) Round 2: Inc in every stitch around with dc (2 dc in each stitch). (24) Round 3: Ch 5, skip 1 stitch, sc into the next stitch. Repeat this all the way around to create the mesh arches/boxes. Rounds 4–7: Continue growing the mesh by increasing the chain count by one in each round (e.g., ch 6, then ch 7) and securing the chains with an sc into the center of the chain loops from the previous round. Continue until you have a flat, smooth circle (approx. 18–20 cm in diameter).
???? Mint Green Edging (Shell Border) There are a total of 8 large wavy shell/leaf motifs around the white mesh: Fasten the green yarn to one of the outer chain loops of the white mesh. Shell Base: Sc into a chain loop, ch 3, and anchor with an sc into the next loop. Shell Stitch: Work 9 dc (double crochet) into the ch-3 space you created, then secure it to the adjacent loop with an sc. To give it the full, dense look seen in 1000104787.jpg, work another round over the shell stitches by making increases (2 dc in each stitch) or by adding a ch-1 between each dc to widen the fan. Finish the final round with sc or reverse single crochet (crab stitch) for a textured, textured border. ???? PART 2: Panda Pieces The panda pieces are crocheted using amigurumi techniques and will be lightly stuffed with fiberfill before being sewn onto the base to create a 2.5D raised relief effect. ???? Head (White) Round 1: 6 sc into a magic ring (6) Round 2: 6 inc (12) Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (18) Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (24) Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (30) Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (36) Round 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (42) Round 8: (6 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (48) Round 9: (7 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (54) Rounds 10–12: Sc in each stitch around (54). Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
???? Eye Patches (Black - Make 2) The eye patches are oval rather than perfectly round. Ch 5. Starting from the second chain from the hook: 3 sc, 3 sc in the last chain (to turn the corner), work along the opposite side of the chain: 2 sc, 1 inc. (10) 1 inc, 2 sc, 3 inc, 2 sc, 2 inc. (16) Sl st all the way around the edge to give it a clean finish, then fasten off. Note: Use white embroidery floss to stitch a sleeping, curved eyelid line across each patch. ???? Ears (Black - Make 2) Round 1: 6 sc into a magic ring (6) Round 2: 6 inc (12) Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (18) Rounds 4–5: Sc in each stitch around (18). Flatten the ear piece without stuffing. ???? Muzzle (White) Round 1: 6 sc into a magic ring (6) Round 2: 6 inc (12) Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (18) Round 4: Sc in each stitch around (18). Fasten off. Embroider a small black upside-down triangle for the nose and a "w" shape for the mouth. ???? Body (White - Shaped for a Curled-Up Sleeping Position) The body is an asymmetrical oval. To give it a crescent/curled shape, increases are clustered on one side: Round 1: 6 sc into a magic ring (6) Round 2: 6 inc (12) Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (18) Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (24) Round 5: Work 4 consecutive increases on one side (inc, inc, inc, inc), then sc in the remaining stitches around. Continue growing this asymmetrical shape until it reaches roughly the same size as the head, then fasten off. ???? Arms & Legs (Black - Make 4 Total) The limbs are plump, black ovals. Round 1: 6 sc into a magic ring (6) Round 2: 6 inc (12) Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (18) Rounds 4–7: Sc in each stitch around (18). Stuff lightly, flatten the opening, and sew closed.
???? PART 3: Four-Leaf Clover (Green) The clover consists of 4 heart-shaped leaves connected in the center. Make a magic ring. For the first leaf: Inside the magic ring, work [ch 3, 3 tr, 3 dc, ch 1, 1 tr, ch 1, 3 dc, 3 tr, ch 3, sl st into the magic ring]. Repeat this process 4 times total inside the ring to create the four leaves. Pull the magic ring tail tight to close up the center. For the Stem: Without fastening off, ch 15–20. Sl st back down the chain to give the stem a sturdy structure. Fasten off. ???? PART 4: Assembly & Joining The most important aspect of this project is layering the pieces at the correct angles to mimic the image. Assembling the Face: First, sew the black eye patches and the white muzzle onto the head. Sew the ears onto the top corners of the head. Attaching Head & Body: Place the body in the center of the white mesh base (stuffing it lightly from underneath as you sew), then position the head at a slightly tilted angle overlapping the top of the body and sew it down. Attaching Limbs: Arrange the black arms and legs around the body according to the curled-up sleeping posture shown in 1000104787.jpg and sew them into place. (Note: The left arm sits slightly underneath the clover). Placing the Clover: Position the green clover right in the middle of the panda's arms so it looks like it's hugging it. Secure it with a few hidden stitches. Curve the stem downward naturally.
