Materials List Yarn: White (For the snowman's head and body) Red (For the beanie, scarf, mittens, and buttons) Green (For the beanie trim, scarf, and buttons) Orange (For the carrot nose) Brown (For the twig arms) Black (Fine embroidery thread or yarn for the eyes, eyelashes, and mouth embroidery) Crochet Hook: A hook size suitable for your yarn weight (typically 2.0 mm – 2.5 mm is recommended). Sewing Tools: Tapestry needle, scissors. Embellishments: Sewing buttons (in red and green, to attach onto the body). 1. Snowman Body and Head (Flat/Circular Panels) The body and head of the snowman consist of two overlapping circles. This project is worked flat in joined rounds using double crochet (dc) or single crochet (sc). Lower Body (Large Circle): Round 1: In a magic ring, make 12 double crochets (dc). Join with a slip stitch (sl st) to close. Round 2: Increase (inc) in every stitch around (Total: 24 dc). Round 3: Repeat "(1 dc, 1 inc)" around (Total: 36 dc). Round 4: Repeat "(2 dc, 1 inc)" around (Total: 48 dc). Rounds 5 and beyond: Continue expanding the circle by adding 12 increases evenly in each round until you reach your desired body size, then fasten off.
Head (Small Circle): Started with the same logic as the lower body, but kept smaller. Round 1: In a magic ring, make 10–12 dc. Round 2: Inc in every stitch around. Rounds 3–5: Continue increasing 10–12 stitches per round until the head reaches the desired size, then fasten off. Note: The head and body are crocheted separately and then sewn together with a slight overlap. 2. Beanie (Hat) The beanie is worked using alternating red and green yarns. Beanie Ribbing (Green Part): Start with green yarn. Chain a length matching the width of the top of the head (approx. 25–30 chains). Work a few rows of single crochet (sc) or back-loop-only sc to create a ribbed brim texture. Beanie Top (Red Part): Switch to red yarn along the edge of the green ribbing. Decrease 1 stitch at each end of every row to taper the hat upward into a triangle/hat shape. Fasten off. Pom-Pom: Make a small pom-pom using both red and green yarn and sew it securely to the top of the beanie.
3. Scarf The scarf is worked in flat rows to form a striped ribbon pattern. Chain Count: Start with a chain that matches the desired scarf width (approx. 8–10 chains). Color Changes: Switch between red and green yarns every 2 rows to achieve the striped look. Work in double crochet or single crochet until the desired length is reached, then fasten off. Attach matching yarn strands to both ends for fringe. 4. Carrot Nose Using orange yarn, start with a magic ring. Round 1: 4 sc in a magic ring. Round 2: (1 sc, 1 inc) repeated (Total: 6 sc). Round 3: 6 sc (work even). Lightly stuff the nose to shape it into a pointed cone and sew it onto the face.
5. Arms and Mittens Twig Arms (Brown): For a natural branch effect, chain a length for the main stem and single crochet back down. Add short branch offshoots by chaining a few stitches along the side and sl st back. Mittens (Red): Start with 6 sc in a magic ring. Increase slightly to shape the palm, then crochet a small thumb bobble/extension attached to the side. Sew the mittens to the ends of the twig arms. 6. Facial Features & Details Eyes and Mouth: Embroider the eyes, eyelashes, and a cheerful smiling mouth using black thread with French knots or stem stitches. (For the middle snowman, use curved stitches for a winking eye). Cheeks: Add a soft rosy flush to the cheeks using pink yarn embroidery, fabric powder, or blush. Buttons: Sew red and green buttons onto the front of the body.
Assembly Instructions Body Assembly: Overlap the bottom edge of the small head circle onto the top of the large body circle and sew them tightly from the back. Beanie: Position and sew the beanie over the top part of the head. Scarf: Wrap and stitch the scarf securely around the neck junction. Face: Attach the carrot nose, then embroider the eyes, smile, and cheeks. Arms: Position the brown branch arms and red mittens, then sew them to the back edges of the snowman's body. Buttons: Finish by sewing the decorative buttons down the center of the body panel.
