2. Curly Hair (Rainbow Colors) The hair in 1000109842.jpg consists of spiral curls rather than popcorn stitches. First, we will create a wig cap base to fit the back of the head, then we will attach the curls. Wig Cap Base: Follow the Head pattern from Round 1 to Round 10 (until you reach 60 stitches). Then, work 4 rounds of 60 sc and fasten off. Place it on the head to check the fit. Making the Curls: Join your yarn to any stitch on the wig cap base. Chain 12. Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, work 3 hdc (or 3 dc) in each chain stitch back to the base. This abundance of stitches will cause the chain to curl automatically into a spiral. Sl st into the next stitch on the wig cap base, chain 12, and repeat the process. Apply these curls all over the wig cap, alternating between your colorful yarn choices (purple, blue, pink, green, yellow, orange, red). Once completed, sew the wig cap onto the head. 3. Legs and Feet Right Leg (Red Shoe + Orange Pants) Using Red yarn, chain 9. Round 1: Starting from the 2nd chain from hook: 7 sc, w (3 sc in the same stitch), turn to work on the opposite side of the chain: 6 sc, inc [18] Round 2: inc, 7 sc, 3 inc, 6 sc, 2 inc [24] Round 3: 1 sc, inc, 6 sc, (1 sc, inc)*3, 6 sc, (1 sc, inc)*2 [30] Round 4: 2 sc, inc, 6 sc, (2 sc, inc)*3, 6 sc, (2 sc, inc)*2 [36] Round 5: BLO 36 sc (You can switch colors to Yellow or Blue here to mimic the shoe sole stripes seen in the photo). Rounds 6-9: 36 sc (4 rounds) Round 10: 10 sc, 8 dec (8 consecutive decreases at the front of the shoe), 10 sc [28] Round 11: 8 sc, 6 dec, 8 sc [22] Insert your plastic insole into the shoe and stuff firmly with fiberfill. Round 12: Change to Orange yarn. BLO 22 sc. Rounds 13-20: (8 rounds) 22 sc. Fasten off. Pants Ruffle: Attach Red yarn to the FLO loops left from Round 12. Work 3 dc in each stitch around. For the next row, change to Yellow yarn and sc in each stitch around to create the picot/wavy edge finish. Left Leg (Blue Shoe + Green Pants) Work exactly the same way as the right leg, but use Blue yarn for the shoe and Green yarn for the pants. Complete the ruffle with the same Red and Yellow combination. Do not cut the yarn at the end of the left leg; we will continue to join the body.
4. Body (Blue Overalls) We will join the two legs using the Blue yarn from the left leg. Round 21 (Joining): Chain 3 from the left leg, join to the inner side of the right leg with a single crochet. Work 22 sc around the right leg, 3 sc along one side of the chain, 22 sc around the left leg, and 3 sc along the opposite side of the chain [Total: 50 stitches]. Rounds 22-30: (9 rounds) 50 sc using Blue yarn. Round 31: (23 sc, dec) * 2 [48] Round 32: (6 sc, dec) * 6 [42] Rounds 33-35: 42 sc Round 36: (5 sc, dec) * 6 [36] Rounds 37-39: 36 sc Round 40: (4 sc, dec) * 6 [30] -> Stuff firmly with fiberfill. Round 41: (3 sc, dec) * 6 [24] Round 42: (2 sc, dec) * 6 [18] Round 43: 18 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing the head. Big Buttons (Make 2): Using Green yarn: 6 sc in MR -> 6 inc [12], fasten off. Join Yellow yarn to the FLO loops, (chain 2, sl st in next stitch) around to make a small frilly frame. Sew them to the front of the overalls. 5. Arms (Make 2) Right Arm (White Hand + Green Sleeve) Start with White yarn. Round 1: 6 sc in MR [6] Round 2: 6 inc [12] Round 3: (1 sc, inc) * 6 [18] Rounds 4-7: 18 sc Note: The right hand points upward in the picture. To mimic this, you can chain 4 and work 3 sc back down the chain during Round 7 to form a thumb extension. Round 8: (1 sc, dec) * 6 [12] Round 9: Change to Green yarn. BLO 12 sc. Rounds 10-22: (13 rounds) 12 sc. Stuff the arm, flatten the opening, and sc 6 across both sides to close. Sew to the top sides of the body. Left Arm (White Hand + Yellow Sleeve) Follow the exact same instructions as the right arm, but switch to Yellow yarn starting from Round 9. Sleeve Ruffles: Attach Red yarn to the FLO loops left from Round 9 on both arms. Work 3 dc in each stitch around. Finish by working 1 sc in each stitch around using Yellow yarn.
6. Large Ruffled Collar Using Yellow yarn, chain 22. Row 1: Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, work 3 dc in each chain across. Row 2: Work 2 dc in each stitch across to make it extra wavy and voluminous. Row 3: Change to Red yarn, sc in each stitch across to create the contrasting border. Fasten off. Slide the collar around the neck area before sewing the head onto the body. ???? Assembly and Final Touches Since the legs were joined directly to build up the torso, no extra leg sewing is required! Sew the arms symmetrically to the sides of the body between rounds 41 and 42. Sew the head firmly onto the neck opening. Make sure your stitches are tight so the head doesn't tilt. (If necessary, add a rolled piece of plastic canvas or thick wire inside the neck to reinforce support). Use leftover green and orange yarn to cross-stitch faux shoelaces onto the shoes. Your vibrant amigurumi clown is now complete!
