Materials List Main Body Yarn: Cotton yarn in your choice of color (gray, black, brown, pink, or blue, as shown in "1000104613.jpg"). Muzzle & Paws Yarn: Cream or off-white cotton yarn. Beard & Eyebrows Yarn: White or very light cream yarn (prefer a yarn that splits into strands easily or has a slightly fibrous texture to achieve the fluffy look). Crochet Hook: 2.0 mm to 2.5 mm (or a size appropriate for your yarn). Safety Eyes: 8 mm or 10 mm black safety eyes. Safety Nose: 10 mm–12 mm black plastic safety nose (or you can embroider it with black yarn). Stuffing: High-quality polyester fiberfill. Supplies: Stitch markers, long yarn needle (for sewing parts together), scissors, and a fine comb/brush to brush out the beard. ???? Detailed Crochet Pattern 1. Head (Main Color) Pay close attention to where the eyes and muzzle will be placed. Do not forget to stuff the head firmly. Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (mr) = 6 Round 2: inc in each stitch around (6 inc) = 12 Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 18 Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 24 Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 30 Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 36 Round 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 42 Rounds 8-15: (8 rounds) sc in each stitch around = 42 Note: Insert the safety eyes between rounds 12 and 13, leaving about 6–7 stitches of space between them. Round 16: (5 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 36 Round 17: (4 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 30 Round 18: (3 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 24 (Start stuffing firmly with fiberfill) Round 19: (2 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 18 Round 20: (1 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 12 Round 21: 6 dec = 6. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Use a needle to weave through the remaining stitches, pull tight to close, and hide the yarn tail. 2. Muzzle (White/Cream Color) We will start with an oval base to give it the slightly chubby look seen in "1000104613.jpg". Round 1: Ch 6. Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook: 4 sc, 3 sc in the last chain (to turn the corner), working along the opposite side of the chain: 3 sc, 1 inc = 12 Round 2: 1 inc, 3 sc, 3 inc, 3 sc, 2 inc = 18 Round 3: 1 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc, (1 sc, 1 inc) * 3, 3 sc, (1 sc, 1 inc) * 2 = 24 Rounds 4-6: (3 rounds) sc in each stitch around = 24 Note: Secure the plastic safety nose right in the upper-middle section of the muzzle. Stuff the muzzle lightly with fiberfill and leave a long tail for sewing it to the head.
3. Body (Main Color) We will crochet the body from the neck downwards. Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring = 6 Round 2: 6 inc = 12 Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 18 Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 24 Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 30 Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 36 Round 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 42 Rounds 8-16: (9 rounds) sc in each stitch around = 42 Round 17: (5 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 36 Round 18: (4 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 30 Round 19: (3 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 24 (Start stuffing with fiberfill) Round 20: (2 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 18 Round 21: (1 sc, 1 dec) * 6 = 12. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. 4. Legs (Make 4 - White and Main Color) The tips of the paws are white, and the upper parts are in the main color. Start with White yarn: Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring = 6 Round 2: 6 inc = 12 Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 18 Round 4: BLO (Back Loops Only) sc in each stitch around = 18 (This creates a flat base for the paw) Round 5: sc in each stitch around = 18 Round 6: 5 sc, 4 dec, 5 sc = 14 (This decreases the front section to shape the paw) Switch to Main Color yarn: Rounds 7-14: (8 rounds) sc in each stitch around = 14 Stuff the leg with fiberfill. You can either flatten the top and crochet the opposing stitches together to close, or leave it open to sew circularly onto the body. Leave a long tail for sewing. 5. Ears (Make 2 - Main Color) We will work in rows (ch 1 and turn at the end of each row) to achieve a triangular shape. Row 1: Ch 7, starting from the 2nd chain from the hook: 6 sc, turn. (6) Row 2: Ch 1, 6 sc, turn. (6) Row 3: 1 dec, 2 sc, 1 dec, turn. (4) Row 4: 4 sc, turn. (4) Row 5: 2 dec, turn. (2) Row 6: 1 dec (1). Single crochet (sc) evenly all the way around the edges of the ear to give it a clean finish. The ears will fold forward when attached. 6. Tail (Main Color) Round 1: 5 sc in a magic ring = 5 Rounds 2-7: (6 rounds) sc in each stitch around = 5. No need to stuff the tail; it should just be firm enough to stand upright.
???? Assembly and Character Details (Beard & Eyebrows) This is the step that truly transforms your creation into a Schnauzer. Assemble the pieces in the following order: Step 1: Head and Body Sew the head onto the top of the body (matching the remaining 12 sc opening) using a yarn needle. To prevent the head from wobbling, push a little extra fiberfill into the neck right before finishing the ditshes. Step 2: Muzzle and Eyes Center and sew the white muzzle piece onto the face, positioning it right below the bottom edge of the eyes. Adding Expression: For a more expressive look, you can take a strand of black yarn, insert it from the outer corner of the eye, pull it through to the back of the neck, and tug gently to create an indented, sculpted look. Step 3: Legs, Ears, and Tail Front Legs: Sew them side-by-side onto the front of the body so the puppy stands upright. Hind Legs: Since the puppies stand firmly on all fours as seen in "1000104613.jpg", sew the hind legs to the lower sides of the body, facing slightly forward to keep the posture balanced. Ears: Position them on the top sides of the head, and fold the tips slightly forward/downward before securing them with a few stitches. Tail: Sew the tail upright onto the lower back of the body. Step 4: Creating the Iconic Beard & Eyebrows (Lark's Head Knot Technique) To get the layered, long-haired beard and bushy eyebrow look: For the Beard: Cut numerous strands of white yarn, each about 8–10 cm long. Insert your crochet hook through the stitches on the white muzzle, catch a strand of yarn at its midpoint, pull a loop through, and pass the ends of the yarn through that loop (just like attaching fringe or hair). Pack these strands densely all around the lower sides and bottom of the muzzle. For the Eyebrows: Do the same thing right above the eyes, adding 3–4 rows of shorter strands. Trimming and Styling: Once all the hair is attached, use sharp scissors to trim the beard into a neat, downward oval shape and the eyebrows so they drape gently over the eyes. Finally, take a fine comb or brush and gently brush out the strands. This splits the yarn plies and creates that soft, fluffy, unified coat texture visible in "1000104613.jpg
