1. Material List Yarns: Cream / Beige (For the main body and hanging handle) Yellow / Mustard Yellow (For the beak, feet, and wing edges) Red (For the comb and wattle) Black and White (For the eyes) Crochet Hook: 3.0 mm or 3.5 mm crochet hook (Ideal for a sturdy texture in amigurumi and mesh). Other Materials: Tapestry needle (for sewing), scissors, a small amount of fiberfill stuffing (for the beak and comb). ???? 2. Pattern Construction, Stitch Counts, and Technical Details A. Head and Upper Body (Starts with Cream Yarn) The head is crocheted using single crochet (amigurumi technique), transitioning into a mesh lattice pattern as you work downward. Start with a Magic Ring and work 6 single crochets (sc). Round 1: Increase in every stitch (12 stitches). Round 2: (1 single crochet, 1 increase) repeat around (18 stitches). Round 3: (2 single crochets, 1 increase) repeat around (24 stitches). Round 4: (3 single crochets, 1 increase) repeat around (30 stitches). Rounds 5 - 9: Work even, 1 single crochet in each stitch (30 stitches - forms the head shape).
B. Mesh Body Section (The Bag Storage Area) After finishing the head, transition into the mesh body. This mesh structure allows plastic bags to be easily stuffed inside and pulled out from the bottom. From Round 10 onward: To create the mesh texture, work 2 chains, skip 1 stitch in the previous row, and join into the next stitch with a double crochet (dc) or single crochet (lattice/net stitch). Repeat these mesh boxes around the entire row until the body reaches the desired length (approx. 25-30 cm). Leave the bottom slightly gathered or open so bags can be pulled through. C. Hanging Handle (Cream Yarn) Start from the top or upper back of the head. Chain approximately 30-40 stitches, turn back, and work single crochets or half double crochets across to create a sturdy strap, then secure and sew it to the opposite side of the head. D. Comb and Wattle (Red Yarn) Comb (Top Part): To create small, puffed sections in different sizes, start with a magic ring of 5-6 single crochets, work 3 small connected dome bumps side by side, and sew them onto the top of the head. Wattle / Gilded Area (Under the Beak): Chain 5-6 stitches, work single crochets and increases to shape two teardrop-like pieces, and sew them right under the beak.
E. Beak (Yellow / Mustard Yarn) Start with a Magic Ring of 6 single crochets. Increase evenly over the next rounds to give it a triangular, 3D form (e.g., Round 2: 9 stitches, Round 3: 12 stitches). Stuff lightly with fiberfill and sew it right below the eyes. F. Eyes (White and Black) White part: Magic ring with 6 single crochets; Round 2: increase in every stitch to make 12 stitches, then fasten off. Black pupil: Embroider a French knot in the center with black yarn, or crochet a small magic ring of 5 single crochets and sew it onto the white piece. Secure symmetrically on both sides of the head. G. Wings (2 Pieces - Yellow with Orange Edges) Round 1: Start with yellow yarn by chaining 8-10 stitches. Work around the chain with single crochets or double crochets to form an oval wing shape. Edge Trim: Work a wavy/scallop shell border around the outer edge of the wings using orange yarn (working 4-5 double crochets into the same space). Make two wings and sew them symmetrically to the right and left sides of the upper body. H. Feet (2 Pieces - Yellow / Mustard Yarn) For the feet attached to the bottom of the chicken, chain 4-5 stitches, branch out small mini chains to form toe shapes, cover them with single crochets, and secure them firmly to the bottom base.
3. Assembly Details Eyes and Beak: First, sew the beak firmly onto the center of the face. Position the eyes symmetrically on the upper right and left diagonals just above the beak. Comb and Wattle: Sew the red comb onto the flat top area of the head. Attach the wattle right underneath the beak. Wings: Sew the wings facing each other on the upper side parts of the body just below the head. Hanging Handle: Fasten it securely to the top of the head so it can hang easily from a wall hook. Bottom Section and Bag Dispenser: Since the bottom mesh portion is left open or gathered, grocery bags can be stuffed from the top and easily pulled out one by one from the bottom opening as shown in the picture.
