What I used for my dachshund Lin I crocheted my dachshund Lin with light and dark brown yarn. I just don't think black is such a nice color for cuddly toys and it's not that easy to crochet :-). Pay attention to the number of grams, I like to crochet tight :-). So it may be that you need more grams. Durable Soqs Chestnut (406, approx. 40 gr) Durable Soqs Topaz (2193, approx. 8 gr) Leftover Durable Soqs Peach (211) for the collar Crochet hook 2.25 mm Filling Plastic nose, size 13 mm, you could also crochet this Safety eyes, size 8.5 by 6mm Stitch marker Darning needle Pins Crocheting dachshund Lin Body part 1 & 2 The difference with the dogs from part 1 is that the dogs from part 2 of 'my dogs of sock wool' usually stand instead of sitting. This is also the case with dachshund Lin. The body therefore consists of two parts. I decided to crochet these first and assemble them with pins.
Ears, tail and blaze After the body I made all the loose small parts like the ears, tail and blaze. I wanted to crochet the blaze first before I started on the head. Crocheting these parts was no problem, but the tail was really small in the beginning. I don't always like crocheting that.
The head The base of the head is, like most patterns from MyKrissieDolls, easy to crochet. Only the assembly was a bit difficult for me and that is mainly because all the parts have to be in the right place. I really want to do everything exactly like the example in the book. I started by attaching the nose, then I used pins to attach the blaze. This way I can find the center of the head for the eyes. Then I attached the eyes. I only attached the blaze after I had stuffed the head.
Front and back legs Crocheting the legs wasn't very difficult. However, I have two tips: Tip 1: In round 8, mark the 9th and 10th stitch with a piece of yarn. These are the 3rd and 4th stitches crocheted together. This is the middle of the leg. This will come in handy later when you attach the leg to the body, so you know which way it should point forward. Tip 2: Are you using two colours in the leg? Then think about which side you are going to attach a leg to. At the end of round 12 I made sure that the colour change is on the inside of the leg, by changing the colour a little earlier or later.
Assembling dachshund Lin I found the assembly the most difficult. All the legs have to be in the right place, so that the dog stands nicely on all four legs. The head also has to stand neatly on the body. When assembling the dachshund I first attached the two body parts. Then I pinned the head and legs together with pins. Then I put the dog aside for a moment. With a fresh look I moved some parts again until everything was to my liking. When I was satisfied I attached everything with the darning needle and thread. Then I attached the ears and tail. The collar In the back of the book 'my dogs of sock wool part 2' is the crochet pattern of the collar. I made the collar with light pink yarn. I put a ring on the collar. On the ring I hung a lock with one ring and a charm in the shape of a star.
