Materials and Techniques Needed: Yarn: White: For the snowman's head, body, and legs. Black: For the hat and shoes/pants. Orange: For the nose (carrot). Gray or Different Color: For the scarf. Green and Red: For the leaf and fruit details on the hat. Crochet Hook: Size appropriate for your chosen yarn (smaller hooks are usually preferred for Amigurumi). Stuffing: Fiberfill/fiber beads to shape the head and body. Other Materials: Safety eyes or for embroidering with black yarn, blush/pink yarn (for the cheeks), sewing needle. Basic Technique: You need to know the Amigurumi technique (single crochet, magic ring, increase, decrease).
Main Parts of the Figure (Knitting Sequence) This figure consists of many parts, usually knitted separately and then assembled: Snowman's Head: Knitted with white yarn. Stuffed with fiberfill. Eyes, orange nose, and cheeks are added/embroidered at this stage. Snowman's Hat: Made with black yarn, with the brim knitted separately and sewn onto the head. Green leaves and red berries (cranberries) are added. Body/Foot Base: The part that forms the platform for the toilet paper roll and the snowman's body. This is usually built on a base (round/oval). In the image, white legs/body and a green base (carpet/ground) are visible. Legs (Holding Part): Two cylindrical legs are knitted. In the image, it looks like black "shoes/pants" are knitted on top of the white parts. The ring/disc section where the toilet paper roll will sit is sewn onto these legs. This section should be the same diameter as the roll. Arms and Scarf: The grey scarf is knitted separately and wrapped around the neck. The arms (the right arm is shown in the image, in a position as if lying in the snow) are knitted and sewn to the head and body.
Crochet Snowman Holder Instructions 1. Part: Snowman's Head and Face (White Yarn) The head is crocheted in a basic sphere or oval shape. Magic Ring (SH) Starting: With white yarn, make 6 single crochet stitches (sci) into the magic ring. Increase Rows: Increase regularly in each row to widen the diameter of the head (e.g., 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 sci... etc.). Straight Rows: After reaching the desired size, crochet a few rows without increasing. Attaching/Embroidering the Eyes and Nose: Attach the safety eyes. Crochet a carrot nose (a very small, conical piece) with orange yarn and sew it on. Embroider the eyebrows and mouth with black yarn. Add blush to the cheeks with pink/red yarn. Decrease Rows: To close the top of the head, begin making regular decreases in the opposite direction of the increases. Stuffing with Fiber: Just before closing, stuff the top tightly with fiber. Closing: Continue decreasing until the last hole is closed.
Part 2: Hat (Black, Green, and Red Yarns) Top of the Hat: Using black yarn, begin as you did for the head, but knit flat in a smaller diameter and cylindrical shape (without increases or decreases). Brim of the Hat: Knit a hanging edge on the bottom of the hat using circular increases. Decoration: Knit small leaves with green yarn (using chain and double crochet techniques), and a small cranberry ball with red yarn. Sew these onto the side of the hat. Part 3: Toilet Paper Holder Legs and Base (White and Black Yarns) This part usually consists of three separate pieces: Base (Foot): The green circular part in the image. Knit a flat circle with green yarn, forming the base of the legs where the toilet paper will stand. Leg Cylinders: Using white yarn, knit two cylindrical legs to the appropriate length for the height of the toilet paper. (Black yarn is used to create the shoe/pant detail.) They are lightly stuffed with fiberfill. Paper Holder Ring/Disc: A ring is knitted to sit on top of the legs, the diameter of a toilet paper roll (knitted with brown/yellow yarn in the image). This ring is sewn to the top end of the legs.
4. Part: Body and Assembly (White Yarn) Body: Larger and flatter than the head, knitted in white yarn in the shape of a snowball. Stuffed with fiberfill. Assembly: The body is sewn to the base of the foot so that the figure leans forward. The legs/supports are firmly sewn to the back of the body. The head is sewn to the body at an angle (so that the snowman is facing forward). 5. Part: Scarf and Arms (Gray and White Yarns) Scarf: A thin, long rectangular strip is knitted with gray yarn, chaining and then working rows of single crochet or half crochet stitches. It is tied around the snowman's neck. Arms: Knitted as small, slightly curved cylinders. They are sewn to the snowman's body in a position as if it were lying on the ground.
