Step-by-Step Pattern 1. Body and Head (One Piece) The body starts from the bottom and narrows down as it continues into the head. We will use the BLO technique at the bottom to give it a slightly flat base. Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6) Round 2: 6 inc (12) Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 times (18) Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) * 6 times (24) Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) * 6 times (30) Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) * 6 times (36) Round 7: BLO 36 sc (36) (This round creates a sharp edge for the base). Rounds 8 - 13 (6 rounds): Sc in each st around (36) Round 14: (4 sc, 1 dec) * 6 times (30) Round 15: Sc in each st around (30) (This shapes the transition from body to head). Round 16: (3 sc, 1 dec) * 6 times (24) Rounds 17 - 21 (5 rounds): Sc in each st around (24) (This forms the head). ???? Attaching Eyes & Stuffing: Insert the safety eyes between rounds 18 and 19, leaving about 4-5 stitches between them. Secure the back washers. Start stuffing the body firmly with fiberfill. Round 22: (2 sc, 1 dec) * 6 times (18) Round 23: (1 sc, 1 dec) * 6 times (12) (Add more fiberfill through the opening to ensure the head stands firm). Round 24: 6 dec (6) Fasten off: Cut the yarn, weave the tail through the remaining 6 stitches using a needle, pull tight to close the hole, and hide the yarn tail.
2. Wings (Make 2) Crocheted using the body color. We will make a flat circle and fold it in half. Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6) Round 2: 6 inc (12) Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 times (18) Fasten off: Sl st to the next st. Fold the piece in half to form a semi-circle (half-moon shape). Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. 3. Tail (Make 1) Crocheted using the body color. We will use chain loops to create a textured, scalloped look. Row 1: Ch 7, starting from the 2nd ch from hook: 6 sc, ch 1, turn. Row 2: (Ch 3, sl st into the next stitch) * Repeat this until the end of the row to create 3 small waves/scallops. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. 4. Comb (Red Color) You can either attach the yarn directly to the top of the head or crochet it separately and sew it on. Crocheting it separately is easier: Row 1: Ch 7. Row 2: Starting from the 2nd ch from hook: (In the same stitch: 1 sl st, 2 hdc, 1 sl st). Move to the next stitch and repeat the same pattern. Repeat across to create a total of 3 small peaks. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing
5. Beak and Wattle Beak (Yellow): Ch 3. 1 sc in the 2nd ch from hook, 1 sl st in the last ch. Fasten off. You will get a small triangle. Wattle (Red): In a MR, work: (ch 2, 1 hdc, ch 2, 1 sl st). Repeat this process one more time inside the same magic ring to make a double wattle. Pull the ring tight and fasten off. 6. Feet (Beige/Light Brown - Make 2) To make the tiny claws under the chicken: Attach the yarn to the front loops (FLO) of Round 7 at the bottom of the body. Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same stitch, ch 2, sl st into the same stitch. Move to the next stitch and repeat the process to create a 2 or 3-toed tiny foot look. ???? Assembly and Sewing Comb and Wattle: Sew the comb right on the center-top of the head. Sew the wattle directly in the middle of the two eyes, about 1-2 rounds below eye level. Beak: Place and sew the yellow beak right above the red wattle (so that the wattle hangs just below the beak). Wings: Take the folded semi-circle wings and sew them onto the sides of the body around rounds 12 and 13, making sure the curved side faces backward. Tail: Sew the scalloped tail to the back-center of the body, level with the wings. Keychain: Securely sew the keychain ring to the top of the head, just behind the comb.
