Material List Yarns (Amigurumi Yarn or Preferably Tricot/Cotton Yarn): Main Colors for Body and Hat: Red, Sage Green, or Cream/Ecru (depending on your chosen model). For the Nose: Skin tone or light beige yarn. For the Beard: White furry/plush yarn. For Decorations: Red, dark green, and brown yarn (for leaves, mistletoe berries, and bows). Crochet Hook: 2.5 mm or 3.0 mm (suitable for your yarn thickness). Stuffing: Fiberfill (only for the nose). Inner Structure/Support: A rigid base for the cylinder to sit on, or an empty glass jar/cylindrical box to cover (optional, for structural firmness). Lighting: A small electronic LED tealight candle (always use a battery-operated/LED candle for safety). Other: Tapestry needle, scissors, small metal bells, jute twine (optional for decoration). ???? Detailed Pattern and Stitch Counts Abbreviations used: sc (Single Crochet), ch (Chain), inc (Increase / 2 sc in one stitch), dec (Decrease / 2 sc together). 1. Body (Lantern Cover - Cylindrical Body and Window Area) The body is crocheted in a cylinder shape, leaving an arched opening (window) on the front so the LED candlelight can shine through. Base: Start with a Magic Ring and work 6 sc into it. (6) Round 2: Work 2 sc in each stitch (Increase all around). (12) Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) repeat to the end of the round. (18) Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) repeat to the end of the round. (24) Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) repeat to the end of the round. (30) Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) repeat to the end of the round. (36) You can continue increasing by 6 stitches per round until you reach the width of your jar or box base (e.g., reaching 60–72 stitches). Once the base is complete, do not increase further.
Body Walls and Window Opening: After completing the base, work evenly (1 sc in each stitch) straight up to build the walls. When you reach the front of the body, to create the window opening: Chain a specific number of stitches (e.g., 12–14 ch) and skip that many stitches on the base below, continuing your round over the chain. In the next rounds, continue working single crochets over the chain to build up the cylindrical shape. To give an arched appearance at the top of the window, decrease on both sides to shape the arch. Fasten off when the body reaches the desired height (approx. 15-20 cm). 2. Nose Crocheted with skin-toned yarn. 1st Round: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6) 2nd Round: Inc in each stitch. (12) 3rd Round: (1 sc, 1 inc) x 6. (18) 4th and 5th Rounds: 1 sc in each stitch (Straight rounds). (18) 6th Round: (1 sc, 1 dec) x 6. (12) Stuff lightly with fiberfill. 7th Round: Work 6 consecutive decreases (dec x 6). Close the hole securely, leaving a long tail for sewing. (6) 3. Hat (Conical and Curved-Tip Design) Start with the main color yarn (Red, Green, or Cream). The hat features a wide brim and a long, curved tip. 1st Round: 5 sc in a magic ring. (5) 2nd Round: 5 sc straight. (5) 3rd Round: (1 sc, 1 inc) progression (stitch counts can be flexible; make balanced increases every 3-4 rounds for conical growth). As you extend the hat upward, make increases very gradually or work even. Once you reach the long tip, curve it and sew it into position, adding a small metal bell or pom-pom at the end. Finish when the bottom brim of the hat is wide enough to wrap around the top of the body. You can optionally work a single row of white furry yarn along the edge for a soft trim.
4. Beard Crocheted with white furry yarn. Since furry yarn makes individual stitches hard to see, you can crochet a base with standard white cotton yarn and work stitches/loops with furry yarn on top to form the beard, or crochet a triangular piece directly with the furry yarn. Work single crochets on a triangular foundation using furry yarn to create a beard shape that widens downward. ???? Assembly Steps Preparing the Body: Slip your finished crochet cover over a cylindrical form or glass jar. Make sure the window cutout is centered correctly. Attaching the Beard: Sew or secure the beard piece to the front of the body, right above the window opening. The top center of the beard should align right where the nose will sit. Positioning the Nose: Firmly sew the top of the nose right above the beard, aligning it with where the hat's bottom edge will meet. The nose should slightly protrude above the beard. Fitting the Hat: Slip the hat over the top of the body. Make sure the bottom edge of the hat drops right down to the top of the nose. Secure the hat to the body using a few hidden stitches at key points. Curve the long tip of the hat sideways or forward, and sew a bell or pom-pom to its tip. Decorations: Embroider small snowflake motifs along the window borders. Add a jute twine bow and tiny leaf/mistletoe berry details right above the window arch. Place your battery-operated LED tealight inside to complete your holiday decoration.
