For my chick in an egg I used: I used cotton yarn Yarn and Colors Must-Have. With this yarn my chick is about 11 cm tall. Of course you can also crochet the chick and the egg with other yarn :-). Yellow cotton yarn (Sunflower 014) Orange cotton yarn (Sunset 021) Leftover Pink cotton yarn (Pastel pink 046) White cotton yarn (Marble 102) Crochet hook 2 mm Filling Safety eyes 8.5 mm x 6 mm (available at boekenvoordeel) Stitch markers Darning needle Pins Optional: All-purpose glue Free crochet pattern Kees the chick in an egg The crochet pattern is suitable for beginners. Some parts are small. I don't like that myself, but with this chick I thought it fit the crochet pattern. Stitches used: V = Single crochet Hlc = Half double crochet Dc = Double crochet Tr = Double crochet L = Chain stitchHead and bodyThe head and body are crocheted in one piece Start with yellow yarn Row 1: 6 sc in the magic ring (6) Row 2: 2 sc in each sc (12) Row 3: 2 sc in each 2nd sc (18) Row 4: (1 sc, 2 sc in the next sc, 1 sc) 6 times (24) Round 5: 2 sc in each 4th sc (30) Round 6: (2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 2 sc) 6x (36) Round 7: 36sc (36) Round 8: 2 sc in each 6th sc (42) Round 9-11: 42sc (42) Round 12: (3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 3 sc) 6x (48) Round 13: 2 sc in each 8th sc (54) Round 14-17: 54sc (54) Round 18: Crochet every 8th and 9th stitch together (48) Round 19: 48 sc (48) Attach the eyes between rounds 15-16 with 9 sc in between. The end for the round should be at the back. Round 20: Crochet every 7th and 8th stitch together (42) Round 21: Crochet every 6th and 7th stitch together (36) Round 22: Crochet every 5th and 6th stitch together (30) Round 23: Crochet every 4th and 5th stitch together ( 24) Round 24: Crochet every 3rd and 4th stitch together (18) Now we start the body Round 25: Crochet in front loop only (1 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc) 6x (24) Round 26 : 2 sc in every 4th sc (30) Round 27: (2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 2 sc) 6x (36) Round 28: 2 sc in every 6th sc (42) Rounds 29-31: 42 sc ( 42) Make the frizzy hair on the top of the head of the chick. I make a loop in the yarn with a button and pull it through the middle of the head to the outside. I do this 3 times. Then I pull the yarn apart for a fluffy effect. Stuff the head. Round 32: (3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 3 sc) 6x (48) Round 33: 48 sc (48) Round 34: Sc every 7th and 8th st together (42) Round 35-37: 42 sc (42) Fill From now on, work the body up. Round 38: Crochet every 6th and 7th stitch together (36) Round 39: Crochet every 5th and 6th stitch together (30) Round 40: Crochet every 4th and 5th stitch together (24) Round 41: Crochet this round only in the back loop. Ch 3 and 4 together (18) Row 42: Ch 2 and 3 together (12) Row 43: Ch 1 and 2 together (6) Fasten off and pick up yarn on your darning needle. Pull yarn through the remaining stitches and pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Hide the end of the yarn.
Beak Start with orange yarn Round 1: 3 sc in magic ring (3) Round 2: 2 sc in each sc (6) Round 3: 6 (6) Fold the beak closed, so that the stitches are next to each other. Round 4: Crochet 3 sc through both layers (3). Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn. Attach the beak between the eyes in rounds 16-17. Cheeks 2x Start with pink yarn Round 1: 6 sc in the magic ring, close the round with a sl st in the first sc (6) Fasten off and leave a tail of yarn. Attach the cheeks to the head. You can do this with the remaining yarn. I don't always like this. I cheated with a bit of all-purpose glue, sssssst. Of course this is not safe if you want to give this chick to children.Wings 2x Start with yellow yarn Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6) Round 2: 2 sc in each sc (12) Round 3: 2 sc in every 2nd sc (18) Round 4: 18 sc (18) Round 5: Sc together every 2nd and 3rd st (12) Round 6-8: 12 sc (12) Round 9: Sc together every 1st and 2nd st (6) Fold the wing closed, so that the sts are next to each other. Round 10: Sc together both layers by 3 sc (3). Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn. Attach the wings to both sides of the body at the height of round 26. Legs 2x Toe Start with orange yarn Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6) Round 2-3: 6 (6) Fasten off and make another toe. Do NOT fasten off.
In the next round we connect both toes together. Round 4: Crochet 3 sc on the second toe, insert your hook in the first toe, crochet 6 sc, insert your hook in the second toe and crochet another 3 sc on it (12) In the picture you see the first 3 sc on the second toe and the first sc on the first toe.Round 5: Crochet every 2nd and 3rd stitch together (8) Round 6: Crochet every 3rd and 4th stitch together (6) Round 7: 6 (6) Fasten off and take yarn on your darning needle. Pull yarn through remaining stitches and tighten to close the hole. Do not cut this yarn, you can use it to attach the legs. Attach the legs to the body. Attach them so the chick can sit on its own. The bottom of the legs is level with the bottom of the body.
The egg Start with white yarn Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6) Round 2: 2 sc in each sc (12) Round 3: 2 sc in every 2nd sc (18) Round 4: (1 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc) 6 times (24) Round 5: 2 sc in every 4th sc (30) Round 6: (2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 2 sc) 6 times (36) Round 7: 2 sc in every 6th sc (42) Round 8: Work this round in back loop only, (3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 3 sc) 6 times (48) Round 9: 2 sc in every 8th sc (54) Round 10: (4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 4 sc) 6 times (60) Rounds 11-12: 60 sc (60) Round 13: Sc every 9th and 10th st together (54) Round 14-15: 54 sc (54) Round 16: (htr, tr, tr, tr, htr, sl st) 9x (54) Fasten off and weave in ends. Optional: make another ribbon with a bow on the egg with the pink yarn.The crocheted chick with egg, final result
